CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS

Is it enough to redeem the disaster MW2 was?BlackOps1

Well, only the first teaser is out but the rumor is that they’re bringing back dedicated servers (and mod/map tools too?).  If so, Call of Duty may be back on the table!  After the disaster that Modern Warfare 2 was I’m not holding my breath just yet.  Let’s hope that Treyarch can put Humpty Dumpty back together again after Infinity Ward fragged the crap outta him!

COMPANY OF HEROES

What happens when you replace a D with an H?

CoHBanner

With the huge disappointment that Modern Warfare 2 was, we’ve been looking into alternatives to freshen up our gaming experience.  Enter Company of Heroes (CoH).  For any of you that may not be familiar with it, it’s a fantastic WWII RTS that was initially released in 2006 and got it’s latest expansion (Tales of Valor) in April ‘09.

Yes, a RTS game is a big shift from a FPS but it has two advantages for us:  It’s designed for 2-8 players which works well for our small clan.  Also, it is of course highly tactical!  CoD isn’t designed for this and it’s something many of us have been hankering for.

As it’s an older title, it isn’t as demanding on the system requirements for those of you with older machines.  I originally thought that the latest installment, Tales of Valor (ToV), was an expansion that required the original game inorder to play, but it doesn’t.  It is a standalone version that can be had for $30 either at your local shop or via Steam and includes all the multiplayer features of the previous two titles.  The difference between ToV and the complete pack is only the single player missions from the earlier releases.

We’ll still be playing both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and World at War but I hope all of you will consider adding this game to your suite and join us online for a whole new type of WWII combat!

MODERN WARFARE 2 FIASCO!NoMW2

Another developer succumbs to Consolitis!

Well guys, it’s a sad day for Call of Duty and PC gaming in general.  Infinity Ward (developer) and Activision (publisher) have recently announced that: Dedicated servers and all support for mods and custom maps have been removed from Modern Warfare 2 to be replace with a console like system called IW.NET.

If you’d like to know more about it and why it’s such a terrible move, check out the PC forum at Infinity Ward, or perhaps the posts at Bash and Slash where the story broke.  I’ve posted some videos/images on the MEDIA & SUPPORT page too for your viewing pleasure.

There is also an online petition to boycott Modern Warfare 2 until dedicated servers and mod/mapping tools are put back in.  It already has over 175,000 signatures and I’d urge you join in if you feel so inclined.

Looks like we won’t be adopting Modern Warfare 2 as we’d hoped... :-(

THE LUAU IS OVER

The groundhog is back in his bunker - just like all of you should be!

Open your windows and look outside.  What do you see?  Yeah, you know what I'm talking about, that white stuff on the ground.  You know what that is... It's snow!  But, more importantly, do you know what that means?  It means: Summer is over.  If the proverbial groundhog is back in his bunker, then you should be too!

Winter is hell.  War is hell.  You see where I'm heading here?  The only way to get a tan over the next six months is to put on some Coppertone SPF 3000 with PABA and wait for the napalm.  So don't give me any of that "go outside and get some fresh air" crap!  The luau is over.  It's time to get your butts back in the trenches of the South Pacific as the case may be.  For those without the proper security clearance, you may not realize that Call of Duty: World at War has been released!

For further intelligence reports z-company.jlx.com will be updated soon with deployment instructions and I hope to see you back on the battlefield again soon!

Z-COMPANY

“The last, and I mean last line of defense!” - Joegernaut

Z-Company is a gaming clan that was formed by those of us who appreciate the finer points of blowing up your friends from the comfort of your own home. Our members range from casual beginners to experienced vets. While we play to win, our success is measured more by how much fun we’re having than our frag count.

Our only requirements are that every player be a good sport, have a mature/respectful attitude and a decent sense of humor. It also helps if they know that the pointy end of the gun goes away from them but that’s more of a guideline than a requirement.

SCRIMS

“Friendly fire - isn’t” - Unknown      Addendum: “Sure it is, as long as you’re playing Call of Duty!” - Psiborg

As much fun as playing amongst ourselves is, we’re looking for other friendly and mature clans to scrim with every once in a while. At this point Z-Company is a nomadic clan without a dedicated server of our own. So, we’ll need an invite and have to play as the visiting team on your server.
